Tom Oliver
From the age Tom could walk he has always been completely obsessed with fish and water! His Grandad took him fishing for the first time at the age of 4 and he has never looked back. Tom’s angling evolved from ‘pleasure fishing’ for anything that would take his bait, to competitive match fishing as a young teenager, then onto specimen carp fishing in his final years of school.
He left his home town of Banbury at the age of 18 and moved down to Hampshire to study Fisheries Management at the notorious Sparsholt College, where he left with a level 3 National Diploma in Fisheries Management.
He now works full time for ‘For Life Experiences’ as an angling coach and educational course tutor. He thoroughly enjoys his job and feels a great sense of reward for the work he does, helping to bring new anglers into the sport.

Tom also competes in various competition carp matches such as the BCAC’s, and recently won the Media Carp Masters 2011 with his fishing partner Graham Mabey.
He is extremely excited about the opportunity to fish as part of the Gardner Tackle sponsored angler team, and hopes that both he and Graham can work together with Gardner, using and abusing our tackle, and flying the flag at competitions and in their writing for the foreseeable future. We are equally excited to have them with us and wish them luck in upcoming years.

Its been an extremely busy year with my angling since I decided to take up competition carp fishing at a serious level. As any of you that compete in these competitions will understand it takes up a lot of your angling time and often means you miss out on the best times of the year and weather conditions on the other lakes you are targeting.
Last August, half way through the first year of a new syndicate being formed, I acquired a ticket for a 30 acre weedy, clear gravel pit that had previously been left untouched. The stock of the carp was really unknown, although people that had walked the venue guessed the stock of carp to be around 15 fish, ranging in size from mid-doubles, to possible upper 40’s. Tom Oliver & Graham Mabey Smash the Media Carp Masters!! By Tom Oliver
We were invited out to fish this year’s inaugural Media Carp Masters at the new Resort Du Der in the Champagne Region of France. The complex consists of three newly dug lakes that are each stocked with more than 200 carp to well over 50lb. The event was scheduled to start on the Friday morning, so Thursday night once we had finished work saw us loading the gear in to the van and making the last preparations before heading down the motorway towards Dover to catch the ferry.
We arrived in France around 10.30pm that evening and drove through the worst fog I have ever seen for the remaining 4 hours before reaching our destination in the early hours of Friday morning. We got our heads down for a bit before it got light and ... (read more...)
